He was one of the members who formed the hip hop group, Wu-Tang Clan, which also included artists like RZA, GZA, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna.

As a solo artist, Ol’ Dirty Bastard released his debut studio album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, on March 28, 1995, via Elektra Records and it included songs like Shimmy Shimmy Ya, Brooklyn Zoo, Hippa to da Hoppa, The Stomp, and Proteck Ya Neck II The Zoo. The album also featured artists such as Raekwon, Killah Priest, Brooklyn Zu, Prodigal Sunn, 60 Second Assassin, RZA, Masta Killa, and Ghostface Killah.

The album titled Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version was certified ‘Gold’ by United States (RIAA) as well as it was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Rap Album” category in 1996.

His 2nd studio album, Nigga Please, was released on September 14, 1999, via Elektra Records and was certified ‘Gold’ by United States (RIAA).

Ol’ Dirty Bastard was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2003.

During his final years, he turned very eccentric and music writer Steve Huey said, “it was difficult for observers to tell whether Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s wildly erratic behavior was the result of serious drug problems or genuine mental instability.”

He died just 2 days before his 36th birthday.

During his lifetime, Ol’ Dirty Bastard was involved in a lot many legal issues such as his inability to pay child support for 3 of his children, attempting an assault on his wife, shoplifting a pair of $50 shoes from a store, alleged connections to 3 murders, and many others.
