Actualizado 23/11/2020 - 15:10

Former basketball player Andrea Martinez has been crowned Miss Universe Spain for 2020 at a ceremony which took place in Los Olivos Beach in Tenerife. The 27-year-old replaces Natalie Ortega, who won the prize last year, even though it was Sofia del Prado, who was Miss Universe Spain in 2017 and also an ex-basketball player, who handed the award to Martinez.

She shared the podium with Andrea de las Heras from Madrid and Ainhoa Portillo from Malaga. "I still don't believe that this has happened. I am Miss Universe Spain," Andrea Martínez wrote on social media.

Andrea Martínez stood out as a basketball player at the Leones high school, and went on to be selected by the Castilla y Leon team, participating in youth championships across Spain and being pre-selected for the Spanish U15 basketball team.

The next step for Martinez - Miss Universe

"Thank you for having trusted me and for supporting me. It's time to start working very hard to take Spain as high as it deserves," Andrea Martínez said about her upcoming participation in the Miss Universe pageant that will be held in Las Vegas in 2021.
