Jeff Goldblum Finds It 'Revivifying' to Be Father of 2 Little Sons at 70 He 'Waited' for Decades

  • Jeff Goldblum had only one wife with whom he dared to become a father.

  • He became a father for a second time at 65 and had fears about it.

  • He is now the gray-haired father of two children and has shared his feelings about it.

Jeff Goldblum is a father to two, who he only welcomed late in life. He and his wife, Emilie Livingston, welcomed the two children together. Jeff revealed Emilie is the only woman he would dare to have children with.

Emilie was a gymnast who became a three-time national Canadian champion of rhythmic gymnastics. Rhythmic gymnastics is when a gymnast performs with a rope, hoop, call, clubs, and ribbon on the floor.

Emilie was a very flexible woman when she competed in gymnastics and also had an easygoing personality, which is one of the reasons Jeff chose her to be the mother of his children and his wife.

Jeff once explained that seeing his wife as a mother further deepened their bond as he enjoyed seeing her care for his children. He said:

"Seeing my wife in this new role is unbelievable. She's heroic beyond imagination."

Jeff told Hoda Kotb that he loved being an older father after she mentioned to him that she found being an older mother to be fun. He said he loved his children and the age at which he welcomed them.

Not only is Emilie a wonderful mother, but she is also a loving wife to Jeff. She surprised him with a trip to Florence, Italy, for his 70th birthday. Jeff thought he was taking her to Staples and not Naples.

Emilie packed her husband's bag for the trip and told him he was going on a surprise car ride. However, he quickly realized their destination was not simply a short car ride away and his wife had planned something more significant for him.

Emilie took to Instagram to share videos and photos of the trip to show fans what they got up to when they were in Italy, and Jeff happily commented on the post, saying it was a great surprise for him.

The actor's wife paired the post with a caption wishing him a happy birthday and calling him the love of her life. She said he was her best friend, and she looked forward to more adventures with him and their sons.

When he got there, he took to Instagram to announce that he was grateful to his wife for taking him on a much-needed vacation after he went through grueling hours filming "Jurassic World" and looked forward to spending time with his family.

The couple is still very much in love with one another after years of marriage and two children. They have exhibited this love many times and have been seen kissing in public often, once at the "Jurassic World" premiere.

Jeff Goldblum's Children Make Him Think of His Mortality

Jeff has said that before meeting and marrying his third wife, Emilie, he didn't believe he would ever have children. However, when he married her, he knew that he could have children with her.

In an interview in 2018, Jeff mentioned that becoming a father at a late age had made him think about his own mortality and where he would be when his children were older. At the time, his children were two years old and ten months old.

He said that as an older father, he extrapolated to figure out where he would be and where his children would be as they age. He also mentioned that he knew he wouldn't be around to see all of his children's milestones because of his age.

The actor shared that every time he bought a watch, he wondered about which of his children would get the watch when he passed away. However, he knows that becoming a father when he did was perfect for him.

Jeff Goldblum is Glad He Waited to Have Children

While he acknowledged that becoming a father at a late age was daunting at first and made him question everything he did, he also knew that he was grateful that he had children when he did and that he had them with Emilie.

Talking about the experience of becoming a father for the first time at 62, Jeff shared that he enjoyed the experience. He said:

"I'm glad I waited. It feels great to do it right now because all the things I'm considering are perfectly suited to the big questions and challenges of having kids and what you want to expose them to."

He has often talked about how wonderful his wife is with their children and that he is grateful that she became the mother of his children. He spoke of being a father to two young children at age 70 this year.

Jeff said that becoming a father so late was "amazing, revivifying, and makes [his] relationship with Emilie, frankly, enhanced." He also described his children as "spectacular" but said it is still a tough job to be a parent.

Jeff's children, Charlie and River, are now five and seven years old, and Jeff says it is not an easy age. He said he sometimes felt as though his children were feral and had been let out of a cage.

While he recognized that it could be challenging to parent his children, he said it was also a fantastic experience and said the children were great. He also said they were as energetic as him when he was a child.

The actor said when he was younger, he had a lot of energy and channeled it into performing. He said his parents supported his dream of becoming an actor, and it didn't take long for him to start landing jobs.
